Portraits in Fabric

I love learning new techniques. I've been impressed with others turning out fabric portraits and was amazed that although it is a tedious process that took a lot of time (part of Saturday and all day Sunday) to complete these two 4" X 6" portraits of my best friend and myself it was also fun and exciting to see them come to life.

I learned how by reading an article by Maria Elkins called "Making Portraits" in The Quilting Arts Book by Patricia Bolton, that I bought this past Friday!

Lynn Yes I like your self portrait too, it could not be anyone else, this could be quite a good new departure, maybe we could get everyone to do self portraits in whatever media is most suitable to them.

Mike, great idea...actually you did start this off already and I followed suit. You might want to mention your idea on my other blog
http://lynnnonameblog.blogspot.com
(Lynn Getting My Feet Wet), as more folks look at that one on a daily basis. The portraits are there today as well.

Love seeing your portraits! They turned out great. Did you have any troubles doing them?

Ohmygoodness! You are the Maria of the Making Portraits article in The Quilting Arts Book!!! I am so honored that you have come to see what I did from your mavelous instructions.

Did I have any trouble doing them?
Let's just say it was a painstakingly slow process for me just learning, but worth every minute of it. I have started on my 3rd and 4th ones this morning, but now must go to my day job (darn it)...but will return to them again.

I have admired others fabric portraits but never dreamed I could do them too. Your directions are easy to follow. Thank you for publishing them and THANK YOU for coming here to see mine!
Wow!!!!

Can't wait to see more of yours. Loved the little boy with butterflies :)

If you hear of anyone else who tries the portrait postcards, let me know. I'd love to see them.

(BTW, I have a Google alert with my name, so I get an email anytime my name is mentioned in a blot. That's how I found both of your blogs.)

Thanks again Maria for coming to see. The little boy with red lips was fun to make! I think I captured his dreamy nature.
